SAFE SLEEP EDUCATION
SIDS and Kids SA is dedicated to saving the lives of babies and children during infancy and childhood and to supporting bereaved families. We deliver on our vision through evidence based education and bereavement support. Our evidence based information is aimed at reducing the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and fatal sleeping accidents
Our Target Audience
Our evidence-based education is developed for health professionals, childcare educators, new and expectant parents and grandparents and anyone who is involved in the care of babies and infants, such as foster carers and nannies.
Our Education Aims
To provide information to new and expectant parents, to allow them to make informed decisions about the infant care practices they choose to use with their baby.
To provide information to healthcare and childcare professionals so they can give parents and caregivers accurate information about current safe sleeping recommendations.
To provide information to healthcare and childcare professionals to enable them to effectively promote and model to parents and caregivers safe infant sleeping practices.
Since the inception of safe infant sleeping information in the early 1990s, the incidence of Sudden Unexpected Deaths in Infancy (SUDI) has reduced by 85%, saving thousands of babies’ lives. Vigilance is still required to maintain this reduction in the number of babies dying suddenly and unexpectedly.
