SIDS and Kids SA are excited to roll out a new education program
following the recent funding provided by our friends at Cops for Kids.
The focus of the Professional Development (PD) Session is to enhance teacher's ability to support children as they return to school after the death of a family member. NOTE: This presentation isn’t designed to take the place of the school counsellor or well-being program but is designed to enhance a teachers knowledge around this area from an organisation that specializes in grief and loss.
The session could be delivered onsite this year or next year as part of the Staff's ongoing PD. It is up to the School to decide where the session best fits into the PD Calendar and we will work around you!
Understanding grief in children and adolescents is vitally important in being able to properly support them at they return to school after a death and also important for the longer term grief journey. As such this session would still be relevant even if the loss was some time ago.
Valued at $385 (inc GST), this session will add another layer of knowledge and a set of tools for your staff to utilise when working with a child in grief.
As a qualified teacher of 18 years, bereaved parent who has firsthand experience in managing grief and loss in a child and studying a Diploma of Counselling, Kat Brown will assist teachers and educators in your work setting with the understanding of what to look for and how to practically assist students travelling a grief journey.
Please see the attached infographic outlining the topics covered in the session. This can also be printed and distributed amongst Staff to initiate discussion and possible questions to be shared at the end of the presentation. Naturally, there is the ever-important Q&A time allocated at the end of the PD session to assist with concerns and areas of interest from the presentation.
COST: $350 + GST (Travel is extra based on location and kms travelled)
